A diplomatic sourcein Azerbaijan said in an interview withArutz Shevathat the country is not willing to serve as a military basefor the Israeli army in a possible strike against Iran.
"We remain uneasy regarding tensions between Israel and Iran, and we hope that the conflict will end by diplomatic means," the sourcetoldArutz Sheva, adding that he believes "economic sanctions are working,"
"In the case that theUnited Statesor Israel should want to attack Iran, Azerbaijan will remain neutral and is not prepared to becomethe siteof ground warfare, the source said. Our nation will be hurt by such a situation and we do not want this.
A spokesman forAzerbaijan's foreign minister, Elmar Mammadyarov, who will lead a delegation to Israel April 21-32, expressed vigorous opposition to a militarysolutionto the Iranian issue. "We oppose any militarysolutionto the unrest in the region."
"If diplomatic efforts fail, you have to double and triple them," he said.
