Azerbaijan: If Iran diplomacy doesn't work, triple efforts

19 Apr 2013 - 16:03

A diplomatic source in Azerbaijan said in an interview with Arutz Sheva that the country is not willing to serve as a military base for the Israeli army in a possible strike against Iran.
"We remain uneasy regarding tensions between Israel and Iran, and we hope that the conflict will end by diplomatic means," the source told Arutz Sheva, adding that he believes "economic sanctions are working,"

"In the case that the United States or Israel should want to attack Iran, Azerbaijan will remain neutral and is not prepared to become the site of ground warfare,” the source said. “Our nation will be hurt by such a situation and we do not want this.”

A spokesman for Azerbaijan's foreign minister, Elmar Mammadyarov, who will lead a delegation to Israel April 21-32, expressed vigorous opposition to a military solution to the Iranian issue. "We oppose any military solution to the unrest in the region."

"If diplomatic efforts fail, you have to double and triple them," he said.
