Tehran, Sept 11, IRNA Iranian chess Grandmaster Ehsan Ghaem Maghami on Thursday became champion of the first version of ECO chess competitions hosted by Tehran.
The competitions opened in Tehran on September 4 with participation of ten chess players from the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
In the ninth and last round today, Ghaem Maghami defeated a rival from Uzbekistan to become champion.
The competitions are held after a memorandum of understanding was signed between Iranian Chess Federation and ECO Cultural Center with the aim of promotion of cooperation and cultural interaction between the ECO member states.
