Iranian chess grandmaster becomes champion in ECO chess competitions

Tehran, Sept 11, IRNA – Iranian chess Grandmaster Ehsan Ghaem Maghami on Thursday became champion of the first version of ECO chess competitions hosted by Tehran.

The competitions opened in Tehran on September 4 with participation of ten chess players from the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization.


In the ninth and last round today, Ghaem Maghami defeated a rival from Uzbekistan to become champion.

The competitions are held after a memorandum of understanding was signed between Iranian Chess Federation and ECO Cultural Center with the aim of promotion of cooperation and cultural interaction between the ECO member states.
