Iran to build 11 new refineries

TEHRAN, June 8 (MNA) Irans deputy oil minister has said the ministry has plans to build 11 new oil refineries.

Abbas Kazemi told Mehr News that ministry would increase its refinery capacity to more than 3 million barrels of gas and oil per day with building new refineries. The preliminary studies to build a 60,000 bb/d gas refinery in Assaluyeh have been launched. Apart from building by the private sector of mid-capacity refineries in Assaluyeh, Persian Gulf Star gas refinery is also in the agenda, and we predict it to start operation in the next year, he added.

Kazemi mentioned building of 350,000 bb/d Anahita refinery in Kermanshah and 120,000 bb/d gas Pars refinery in Shiraz as other projects in the oil ministry. The oil ministry has in its agenda the development, improvement, and optimization of currently operating refineries along with building new ones, he asserted.

Asked by Mehr News about the conditions of Irans agreements to build four refineries with Malaysia, Indonesia, Syria, and Venezuela, Kazemi said that the projects had advanced virtually zero percent. However, he said that the agreements remained still valid.
