Iran, Syria play major role in regional equations: Syrian candidate
One of the three Syrian presidential candidates says Iran and Syria play an important role in political equations in the Middle East region.
Hassan Abdullah al-Nouri said on Saturday that cooperation among Syria, Iran, Russia and the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, will foil colonialistic plans of countries outside the region.

He added that the Syrian people are prepared for mass participation in the June 3 presidential election.

The true friends of Syria will view the voter turnout as a glorious victory, the Syrian candidate said, adding that Syrias enemies, however, will question credibility of the election.

Nouri also termed the election in Syria as a turning point in the countrys history, noting that the vote will prepare the ground for Syria to play a more effective role at regional and international levels.

Syria says it will hold the presidential election on June 3. The three presidential candidates in Syria include incumbent President Bashar al-Assad, Maher Abdel Hafiz Hajjar and Nouri.

Damascus has dismissed Western and opposition accusations that its presidential vote lacks credibility, saying that it is planning a free and transparent election.

On May 28, Syrian citizens living abroad began voting at the Syrian embassies in a number of countries including the Islamic republic.

According to Syrian media, several countries including France, Germany, Belgium, and the United Arab Emirates have prevented Syrians from casting their ballots.
