Date, venue of nuclear talks not determined yet: Iran official

A definite agreement has not been reached yet on the time and venue of the next round of the nuclear negotiations between Iran and six world powers, says a senior Iranian official.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, who is also a member of the Iranian negotiating team, made the remark on Monday night, adding that the two sides are still holding discussions to determine the time and place of the negotiations.

Earlier on Monday, a source close to Irans negotiating team had said that the Islamic Republic and the six world powers - Russia, China, the US, France, Britain and Germany - would hold their next round of nuclear negotiations in New York in mid-February.

US State Department Spokeswoman Marie Harf had also said on Monday that the next round of the negotiations on a long-term nuclear agreement was expected to start next month in New York.

She also said that New York has been chosen because of its similar infrastructure to Geneva, the Swiss city that has hosted previous rounds of nuclear talks between Iran and the sextet.

New York - agreed to by EU High Representative [Catherine] Ashton and Iranian Foreign Minister [Mohammad Javad] Zarif - has a similar support infrastructure to Geneva, the US official said, adding that the United Nations and international support is important for work on a comprehensive agreement.

On November 24, 2013, Iran and the six major world powers inked a nuclear accord in Geneva. The two sides started implementing the agreement on January 20.
