Iranian deputy FM meets Kuwaiti counterpart

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian held a meeting with Kuwaiti Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs Khaled al-Jarallah.

During the meeting in Kuwait City on Tuesday evening, Amir Abdollahian and Jarallah discussed the latest developments in the relations between Iran and Kuwait as well as the regional developments.

Amir Abdollahian traveled to Kuwait on Tuesday to take part in the 2nd International Syria Donors Conference on January 15.

The conference will kick off work on Wednesday and will be presided by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Amir Abdollahian is slated to participate in the Kuwait conference which will mainly focus on Syrian developments as well as ways to help the Syrian refugees to return back home.

"The meeting is scheduled to be attended by high-ranking officials and delegations from 86 countries as well as representatives of regional and international organizations," Amir Abdollahian said on Monday.

The participant countries have offered $1.541mln in aid funds to help the Syrians. The first Syria donors conference was held in Kuwait last year.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
