Iran to seriously pursue talks with G5+1: FM

Islamabad, Dec 19, IRNA -- Irans Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said here on Thursday that Islamic Republic of Iran would seriously pursue the expert level talks with the G5+1.

Talking to IRNA, the minister said that Iran is a peaceful country that wants its nuclear issue to be resolved only through talks.

Zarif arrived in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad Thursday morning to attend 16th ministerial meeting of the Developing Eight Countries known as D-8.

We have to understand that talks are dealing with a difficult issue that can be sorted out with close cooperation of both sides, Mohammad Javad Zarif added.

The foreign minister also said that unfortunately the other party followed an unrealistic behavior towards Iran in talks which gave birth to lack of trust on the Iranian side.

He added that Iran wanted the nuclear issue to be resolved only through talks.

We hope that the other party would continue the dialogue with Iran sincerely and observe its commitment, he said.

Zarif went on to note that Iran and Pakistan enjoyed strong brotherly relations in all sectors.

He added that strengthening of Iran-Pakistan relationship is good for the people of both countries and the stability of the region.

He stressed that neighbors are given priority in Iranian foreign policy. Iran has

good relations with international community but we have excellent relationship with Pakistan, he said.

Talking about the 16th meeting of the Council of Ministers of Developing Eight Organization, the minister said that the group was established with joint efforts of Iran and Turkey.

He called upon the group members to further enhance the economic cooperation.

Earlier today, the Iranian Foreign Minister was welcomed by Ali Reza Haghighian, Iran?s Ambassador to Pakistan, Pakistani officials and Iranian diplomats upon his arrival at Nur Khan air base.

As the chair of the organization, Pakistan is hosting the D-8 16th meeting of the Council of Ministers meeting which will be inaugurated and chaired by Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.

During his one-day stay here, Zarif will hold separate meetings with the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain and Foreign Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davuto?lu to discuss matters relating to bilateral relations as well as ways to strengthen the D-8.
