Irans Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif[/caption]Tehran, Dec 18, IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says Iran has never posed any threat to regional security as claimed by certain countries.
He made the remark while addressing a gathering of representatives of the Supreme Leader to universities here Wednesday morning.
Noting that the latest round of talks with the G5+1 dealt a severe blow to sanctions, the foreign minister said the recent remarks by the US Treasury Department official David Cohen about Iran?s sanctions serves the objective of maintaining the sanctions at any rate.
He said Iran simply opposes the culture of dominance and is challenging it through its own school of thought.
He noted that Iran?s attitudes causes concern among certain countries including the Zionist regime which is trying to portrait Iran as a threat to the regional security.
He stressed that no country is able to dictate any thing to Iran and said it is the Islamic Republic that sets the tone and course of the games in the future.
Noting that its religious background forbids Iran from trying to develop nuclear arms, Zarif said Iran has no belief in producing and stockpiling nuclear arms because it believes such arms could not guarantee security for any country including Iran.
The foreign minister said he is moving along the direction designated by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
He said the Supreme Leader is the one who makes decisions relating to Iran?s nuclear program.
He said the continuation of talks depends on the Supreme Leader?s decision and his team is just acting within the frameworks set by Ayatollah Khamenei.
Referring to the recent remarks by the US President Barack Obama, he said Iran will surely adopt strong positions against such claims.
Stressing that Iran will never allow violation of its national interests and rights, Zarif said President Obama?s improper remarks are not something new because they have been repeated for a long time.
He said the new thing in his remarks is the fact that he admits to inability to damage Iran?s nuclear program.
He went on to stress that any kind of insults to the great nation of Iran was unacceptable.
