Islamabad, Oct 31, IRNA Senior Pakistani parliamentarians have unanimously called upon the government to implement Iran gas pipeline project and resist any foreign pressure.
Taking part in a TV debate they said Pakistan would be the loser if the multi-billion project was harmed.
Senator Saeed Ghani of the main opposition Pakistan Peoples Party alleged that the present government is trying to abandon the IP project.
Pakistan will lose a lot if Iran scrapped the project, he said at a debate on private Geo television Thursday.
Senator Afrasiab Khattak of Awami National Party stressed that Pakistan should not accept pressure from the United States and any other country on the IP project.
He also said that Iran is unhappy at the border violation of armed persons from Pakistani soil and killing of Iranian guards.
We should not annoy neighbours due to such incidents, senator Khattak said.
Member National Assembly from Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf party, Murad Saeed, said Pakistan should pursue the Iran gas pipeline project and ignore any American pressure.
Member National Assembly belonging to the ruling Pakistan Muslim league (PML-N), Sardar Yaqoob Nasir, hinted that Iran gas pipeline could be delayed due to financial problems.
The participants also criticized the government for not taking serious steps to counter terrorism. They also disputed official figures of civilian casualties in the US drone attacks presented by the Interior Minister in the parliament on Wednesday.
The lawmakers said that more civilians have been killed in the drone strikes but the government is hiding the exact number.
