Former Iranian President, reforminst Mohammad Khatami has sent a letter to Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu regarding the anti-Islam film, Mehr reported.

Director Sam Bacile's two hour film attacking Islam's Prophet Muhammad sparked angry assaults by ultra-conservative Muslims on U.S. missions in Egypt and Libya, where a U.S. ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed.

In his letter, Khatami requested that the OIC Secretary-General, along with international agencies and organizations would urge all governments ,including the American one to prevent ethnic and religious disasters from happening in the future.

"If the Quran burning crime would have been met with harsh response, today some Zionists would not make such a film openly to disrespect Prophet Mohammad," says Khatami's letter.

Terry Jones, the controversial Florida pastor whose Quran-torching escapade in 2011 brought him hatred in the Islamic world, is promoting the Innocence of Muslims film that sparked the anti-US protests in Libya and Egypt, rejected criticism of his involvement, although he said he "regretted" the loss of life at the US consulate in Benghazi, the Telegraph reported earlier.
