According to The Iran Project, Sahar Tajbakhsh Mosalman made the announcement while talking to reporters about air pollution status on Sunday.

According to the instructions of the Clean Air Law, the Meteorological Organization has duties regarding air pollution, including that the Meteorological Organization must notify the Ministry of Health of the stable conditions in the cities that suffer from air pollution 96 hours ago, she said.

She went on to say that then this ministry forms an emergency committee and decisions related to closure are made in this committee.

In this regard, activities have been carried out in the Meteorological Organization, such as, with the help of the National Research Institute of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences, a model has been launched that provides an early warning, she remarked.

Air pollution commonly occurs in Tehran, a city of 15 million population, and other large cities in the country when the weather is cold during autumn and winter when there is no wind or rain and temperature inversion happens.

According to study results available on the Internet, temperature inversions affect air pollution because they change the dynamics of air movement. Warm air rises in the atmosphere because it is less dense and, therefore, more buoyant than the cooler air above it.
