US, UK, EU, Canada impose new sanctions on Iranian individuals, medias

The Iran Project - The United States has recently imposed another round of sanctions on more than two dozen Iranian individuals and entities, as well as media networks on the death anniversary of Mahsa Amini.

The sanctions were announced by the US Department of Treasury and targeted 29 individuals and entities allegedly involved in the "violent suppression of nationwide protests" following the death of Mahsa Amini, an Kurdish Iranian woman, in police custody September last year.

29 people and groups, including 18 key members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran's Law Enforcement Forces (LEF), as well as the head of Iran's Prisons Organizations, the department said. They also target officials linked to Iran's internet blockade and several media outlets are among those who were sanctioned.

The English-language Press TV news network, along with Fars News and Tasnim media outlets, were also included in the sanctions.

Additionally, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom have imposed their own sanctions on Iranian individuals and entities over similar allegations.

The European Union has also added four Iranian officials and six entities to its sanctions list in commemoration of the anniversary of the protests.

Protests erupted in Iran after the death of a 22-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini, in the custody of morality police for not wearing her hijab properly in September last year. Several months of protests gradually subsided.

The latest sanctions mark the 13th round imposed by the US Treasury in connection with the riots.
