IAEA says Iran slows 60% uranium enrichment

The Iran project - According to a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran has reduced its enrichment of uranium at 60% purity.

The report, seen by Western media, states that Iran currently has 121.6 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60%, a slower rate of growth compared to previous counts. In May, the IAEA reported a stockpile of just over 114 kilograms, and in February, it was 87.5 kilograms. The 2015 nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA, limits Iran's uranium stockpile to 300 kilograms and enrichment to 3.67%, sufficient for powering a nuclear power plant.

However, the IAEA report also highlights challenges in monitoring Iran's nuclear program. Iranian authorities have reportedly denied visas for agency officials, and experienced inspectors have been removed from their positions. Since February 2021, the IAEA has been unable to access surveillance camera footage due to Iranian restrictions. The only recorded data since June 2022 comes from cameras at a workshop in the city of Isfahan.

Iran has previously rejected reports of visa denials. In September 2022, Iran and other parties to the nuclear deal were close to reaching an agreement to revive the deal after the removal of sanctions on Tehran. However, according to the Iranian foreign minister, the United States and three European parties withdrew from the agreed draft agreement, hoping that last year's riots in Iran would lead to the overthrow of the Iranian government.
