Iran, India discuss expansion of ties, realization of full potential of Chabahar Port
The Iran Project - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi have held a phone conversation to explore avenues to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation and the realization of the full potential of Chabahar Port.

In the Friday phone talk, President Raisi said Iran and India should specifically expand cooperation in the fields of transit and energy security.

They emphasized the importance of expanding interaction on the North-South Corridor and expressed their commitment to developing economic relations with countries in Asia.

Prime Minister Modi condemned the recent terrorist attack on the Shah Cheragh shrine in Shiraz and offered his sympathy to the Iranian government and people.

Both leaders hailed the long-term cooperation between Iran and India and highlighted the significance of the Chabahar Port project in promoting regional development.

They agreed to expedite the development of the port as a symbol of bilateral cooperation. The two sides also discussed matters of bilateral and regional importance, including their cooperation at multilateral forums such as the upcoming BRICS summit in South Africa.

Tehran has expressed interest in joining the BRICS group of emerging economies.

According to South Africa, some 40 nations have shown interest in joining, either formally or informally, including Saudi Arabia, Argentina and Egypt.
