Irans ambassador to Doha has announced the release of seven Iranians from prisons in Qatar and their return to the country.

In a post on his Twitter account on Tuesday, HamidrezaDehqani Poudehsaid, With the cooperation of the relevant Qatari authorities, seven prisoners of our country were released today and flew home a few moments ago.

He also attached a picture of the departure screen at the Qatar airportin Doha that showed a Tehran-bound flight.

Among those released, there were six people who had been arrested for illegally but not deliberately entering Qatrai waters. They had been sentenced to one-year imprisonment, but the ruling was suspended.

Last week, the Iranian ambassador tweeted that the six detainees would be released and come back to the country in the coming days.

Iran and Qatar signed an agreement on the extradition of criminals back in 2010.

Over the past year, Dehqani Poudehhas met with Iranians at Qatar's central prison amid attempts to transfer some of the detainees to Tehran.

Recently, Irans Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian paid a visit to Doha, where he discussed with Qatari officials a range of issues, among them consular matters, especially the situation of Iranian citizens held behind bars in Qatar.
