Iran, Syria ink MoU to expand cooperation on ICT
Iran and Syria have signed a memorandum of understanding to boost their cooperation in the field of information and communications technology (ICT).

The MoU was signed on Wednesday by Irans Minister of Information and Communications Technology Issa Zarepour and his Syrian counterpart Iyad Mohammad al-Khatib on the first day of a two-day official visit to Syria by Irans President Ebrahim Raisi and his accompanying delegation made up of some cabinet ministers including Zarepour.

Under the document, Iran will help Syria rebuild its communications infrastructures which were destroyed during the years-long war and foreign-backed militancy in the Arab country.

The Iranian side will also export technical and engineering services coupled with active and passive telecommunications products to Syria, among other things.

The two sides agreed to form a joint expert-level working group within the next two months to follow up on the implementation of their agreements.

On Wednesday, Iranian and Syrian delegations signed 15 cooperation agreements in the presence of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad in Damascus.

Among the agreements signed on Wednesday, the most important one was a document entitled comprehensive plan of strategic and long-term cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Syrian Arab Republic which authorities from both sides said will serve the interests of the two nations as well as other countries of the region.
