Iran Air to make extraordinary flight to take home Iranians from Beirut

IRNA Iranian airliner 'Iran Air' is to provide its second extraordinary flight to take home Iranian nationals from Beirut on August 12.

The decision has been made in the wake of the recent deadly explosion in Beirut Port.

The flight is scheduled to be made at 13:40 local time from Imam Khomeini International Air Port.

The returning flight will also be made at 16 local time in Beirut and is to land at 20 in Tehran.

A massive explosion rocked the Lebanese capital of Beirut leaving a very high number of casualties.

A warehouse at the Beirut Port caught fire on Tuesday afternoon, triggering a huge explosion, Lebanons official National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Several smaller explosions were heard before the bigger one occurred.

Abbas Ibrahim, the head of Lebanons General Security, said that highly explosive materials ammonium nitrate confiscated earlier had been stored at the site.

Footage shared on social media captured the moment of the bigger explosion, with columns of thick smoke billowing fast across several hundreds of meters and shrouding the area.

The tragedy has so far claimed at least 100 lives and injured over 4,000 people.
