Iranian presidential candidate Mohammad-Reza Aref has urged Reformists to take part in the upcoming presidential and city council elections, saying those who do not vote are not Reformist.During a tour of the provinces of Kerman and Yazd on Monday, Aref said Reformists should turn out to vote to create a political and economic epic.
We cannot turn away from the polls. Turning away [from the polls] is not [a form of] objection rather it is [a form of] retreating and a Reformist does not retreat, the former vice president said in Kerman.
Reformists have never backed down from their positions and they are present on the scene of the elections to achieve their goals, he said in Yazd.
The Reformist candidate also pledged to fix the economy, solve economic problems such as high prices, inflation, and heed public demands, should he become the next president.
Aref faces six rivals in the election, namely President of the Center for Strategic Research of the Expediency Council Hassan Rohani, Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei, former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election. This years election will be held on June 14.
Nearly 50.5 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the upcoming presidential election.
