Russia, China reiterate support for JCPOA

IRNA Russia and China in a joint statement published on Russian Foreign Ministrys website reiterated support for JCPOA, the official name of 2015 nuclear deal reached between Iran and six world major powers.

The statement said that Moscow and Beijing underline full support for the effective implementation of the JCPOA as it has been approved in United National Security Councils Resolution 2231.

Russia and China accept the reality that sustaining and regular implementation of the JCPOA plays a crucial role in consolidating global structure of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and international security, it said.

The statement was released in support of the deal during the Second Session of the Preparatory Committee of 2020 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons which is underway in Geneva.

Conclusion of JCPOA clearly revealed that the problematic issues in the field of non-proliferation can be solved only through political and diplomatic ways corresponding to NPT, the statement said.

Russia and China support the key and independent role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in inspecting and monitoring Iran nuclear activities as per the United Nations Security Council 2231 and it welcomes regular verification of Irans compliance with its commitments under the deal.

Both countries also throw their weight behind the Joint Commission established to fulfill missions envisaged in JCPOA.

Director of Russian Foreign Ministry Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control Vladimir Yermakov earlier said that over 120 member states of NPT supported Russia-China joint statement in support of JCPOA.
