Iran robustly slams attack on its embassy in London

March 12, The Iran Project - In the wake of Friday (March 9) attack on Iran embassy in London, several top Iranian officials have strongly censured the move, demanding for UK proper action.

On Friday night, the attackers stormed into the compound of the Iranian Embassy, hoisting their flag on the balcony of the building without facing any reaction on the part of the London police.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, IRNA, British police did nothing to protect the compound during the attack.

Following the attack, Iran ambassador to the UK Hamid Baeidinejad in a Twitter message censured London failure to protect the Iranian diplomatic mission.

The Iranian envoy reiterated that London should give assurances that the group who had an explicit plan to attack Iranian Embassy are controlled and that they pose no further threats against the Iranian mission.

Meanwhile on March 11, Baeidinejad posted an Instagram image on his Twitter page belonging to Hossein Marashi Qazvini, a devotee of the Shirazi cult containing his insults directed at Baeidinejad, threatening him with assassination.

Moreover, in a statement, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemistrongly reacted to the move, saying that "Immediately after the incident was reported, the [Iranian] Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araghchi, expressed the Islamic Republic of Irans strong protest to the British ambassador to Tehran and demanded that the UK police fully protect our diplomats in London and immediately deal with the assailants."

Iranian foreign ministry also has summoned the British Ambassador to Iran Nicholas Hopton to lodge a formal complaint with the UK over how it handled a raid on Irans embassy in London.

Besides, Secretary of Irans Expediency Council Mohsen Rezayee blasted the raid on the Iranian embassy and said the attack was aimed at deviating public opinion from protest at Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salmans visit to the country

Speaking on the condition of anonymity to IRNA correspondent, a spokesperson at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office said that Britain takes its duty toward international conventions on diplomatic relations highly seriously.

Eventually, UK ambassador to Tehran posted a message on his official Twitter account on Sunday (March 11) reassuring that UK is abiding by diplomatic conventions regarding the security of diplomats and diplomatic missions.

Hopton tweeted a post in Farsi on Sunday saying that he was very saddened by what happened in London on Friday.
