Spanish, Dutch top diplomats due in Tehran on Tuesday: Spokesman

Tasnim The foreign ministers of Spain and Netherlands plan to start their official visit to Iran later on Tuesday as part of efforts to boost relations with the Islamic Republic, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said.

The Spanish and Dutch foreign ministers plan to arrive in Tehran on Tuesday night to hold talks with senior Iranian officials, including Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Qassemi said.

In their meetings, the top diplomats are slated to discuss ways to cement relations between Iran and the Western European countries, the spokesman said.

The visits come against the backdrop of a new wave of interest in ties with Iran after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) in July 2015 reached a nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and started implementing it in January 2016.

The comprehensive nuclear agreement terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran.

However, Iranian officials have complained about the failure of the other side, especially the US, to fully implement the accord, as Iran still has problems in its banking transactions with other countries.
