SNSC secretary to meet two senior Syrian officials

IRNA - Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani is to receive Head of the National Security Bureau of the Ba'ath Party Ali Mamlouk and Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem on Saturday afternoon.

The meeting aims at reviewing the latest security and operational developments in the process of both countries cooperation in fighting takfiri terrorism, negotiating on joint political measures and innovations to maintain truce in Syria and to prepare the ground to start intra-Syrian talks.

Taking necessary measures aimed at preventing the operational and spiritual recovery of terrorist groups following their defeats in Aleppo is among other topics to be discussed during the meeting.

Walid Muallem is also scheduled to meet Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to discuss the latest developments in Syria.

In the wake of the trilateral meeting attended by foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey and Russia which was held on December 20 in Moscow, all three sides issued a statement based on which Syrian government-opposition talks are to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

While the truce has been established in Syria since December 30, Russia and Turkey guaranteed cease-fire enforcement.

Foreign ministers of Iran, Russia and Turkey had a trilateral meeting in Moscow on December 20 with a focus on the humanitarian crisis in Syria, particularly the dispatching emergency relief supplies to Aleppo.
