Attacking Syrian troops shows US true intentions: Iranian official

US airstrikes on Syrian government forces who are fighting terrorists highlight Washingtons true intentions, says a senior Iranian official.

We strongly denounce the US measures, and do not believe that it was a military mistake, said Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Sunday during a meeting with Syrias Ambassador to Tehran, Adnan Hassan Mahmoud.

On Saturday, a US-led coalition attack in Syrias eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr killed dozens of Syrian soldiers and injured a hundred more.

The US will do anything to weaken Syrias morale and boost terrorist groups, added the assistant speaker of Iran's parliament.

The presence of US soldiers in Syria violates international laws and has not been coordinated with the Syrian government, he added.

He went on to stress that Washingtons attack on the Syrian army also violated a Russia-US brokered ceasefire in Syria. Attacking an army which is battling terrorism means backstabbing and helping Daesh, he noted.

On September 9, Russia and the United States agreed on a milestone deal on the Syrian crisis after some 13 hours of marathon talks in the Swiss city of Geneva.

The deal, which began on September 12 and was initially agreed to last seven days, calls for increased humanitarian aid for those trapped inside the embattled northwestern city of Aleppo.

Under the terms of the ceasefire agreement, Russian and American fighter jets would launch joint airstrikes and pound the positions of Takfiri terrorist groups in Syria.
