Friday prayer leader criticizes reluctance over Mina tragedy

Tehran, Sept 9, IRNA Tehran Friday Prayers substitute leader expressed wonder about the indifference of other countries who have also fallen victims to last year's tragedy in Mina.

It is surprising why other countries whose pilgrims were martyred in the incident as well, failed to show any protest, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said in the second sermon of Tehran Friday Prayers.

'Last year 7000 people were martyred in Mecca during an unprecedented incident,' Ayatollah Jannati said.

'Around 500 of them were from Iran and the rest of them were pilgrims from other countries,' he said.

The Friday Prayers leader said that the comments expressed by the Supreme Leader in his hajj message about the Saudis were quite right.

Ayatollah Jannati said that the Saudi actions today are tantamount to what their predecessors in Hijaz did out of their barbarism and ignorance.

They are repeating the same old barbarism and ignorance, he said.

The Tehran Friday Prayers leader also expressed his support for a rally by the prayers in protest to the Mina tragedy.

'We should express our disgust and disdain for those who caused this tragedy, he said.

Ayatollah Jannati also said that any agreement between Iran and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) should not let other countries to access Iran's financial and banking data on excuses like fighting money laundering.
