Ankara praises crucial roles of Moscow, Tehran on Syria

TEHRAN (FNA)- Turkish top diplomat said on Thursday that Moscow and Tehran are playing vital roles in resolving the Syrian conflict.

Achieving a lasting resolution ofthe crisis inSyria withoutRussia and Iran would be impossible, Ankara will cooperate withthem onthese issues, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said, Sputnik reported.

"We have repeatedly stated, even inthe period ofcrisis inour relations, that it would be impossible toachieve a lasting resolution inSyria withoutRussias participation. We continue toinsist onthis. The same can be said aboutIran, withwhich we are negotiating atthe moment aswell and aim tostrengthen cooperation inthis sphere," Cavusoglu said.

The minister expressed confidence that the Syrian issue would be resolved throughcooperation.

Syria has been mired incivil war since2011, withgovernment forces loyal toPresident Bashar Assad fighting numerous terroritst groups.

A US-Russia-brokered ceasefire came intoforce acrossSyria onFebruary 27. It does not apply toterrorist groups such as ISIL and Fatah al-Sham Front, both outlawed inmany countries, including Russia.

Mevlut Cavusoglu said Turkey will consider military-technical cooperation with Russia if Moscow were interested, as its NATO partners seem to be shying away from such cooperation

Turkish Foreign Minister told Sputnik Turkey is ready todevelop its own defense industry and is willing toconsider Russia's cooperation inthe field.

"It seems tous that NATO members behave inan evasive fashion inissues such asexchange oftechnology and joint investments. Turkey intends todevelop its own defense industry and strengthen its defense system. In this sense, if Russia were totreat this withinterest, we are ready toconsider the possibility ofcooperation inthis sector," Cavusoglu said when asked aboutthe possibilities ofcoopeating withRussia inthe defense sphere.
