SPGC launches Sulfur recovery unit

TEHRAN, July 05 (Shana) -- South Pars Gas Complex has launched trains III and IV of the sulfur recovery unit of its 6th Refinery.

Director of the refinery Mehran Doj told Shana that the project will turn all the acid gas output of the sweetening unit of the refinery into sulfur with a daily production capacity of 420 tons.

The unit prevents flaring of toxic gasses by the refinery, he said, preserving the regional environment.

The refinery is fed by the gas recovered from phases 15 and 16 of the supergiant South Pars Gas Field which is considered the sourest gas feedstock in the SPGC.

Phases 15 and 16 are being developed for production of 50 mcm/d of sweet gas for consumption in the household, commercial and industrial sectors of the country.

Besides, production of 80,000 b/d of gascondensate, 1.05 mt/y of LPG, 1 million tons per year of ethane for feeding petrochemical plants and 400 ton/day of sulfur are envisaged in development of the projects.
