India eyes liquid gas exports from Iran – Energy minister

India is interested in exports of liquefied Iranian gas as well as building gas processing facilities in the Chabahar port, the Indian Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said in a statement released Monday.

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — The statement came a day after India’s Petroleum and Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan wrapped up his two day visit to Iran on April 9-10 where he met his Iranian counterpart Bijan Zanganeh in the wake of the January lifting of economic sanctions from Tehran.

"Sh Pradhan also conveyed to the Iranian side that both countries must expand the basket of oil and gas trade. He expressed India’s interest in importing LPG [liquefied petroleum gas] from Iran and said that companies from both sides could discuss setting up an extraction plant in Chabahar, if required," the statement read.

The ministers agreed to look for ways to transfer liquefied natural gas from Iran, including through the proposed Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline. India also hopes to build an LNG plant and a gas cracker in the Chabahar port.
