Irans UN Envoy Urges US to Stop Backing Terrorist-Nurturing States

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Ambassador to the United Nations Gholam Ali Khoshroo said settlement of problems in the region requires an end to US support for terrorist-nurturing countries.

Speaking in a ceremony held in New York to mark the 37th anniversary of the victory of Irans 1979 Islamic Revolution, Khoshroo underlined that Iran has always played a helpful role in efforts to resolve regional woes.

In order for these problems to be settled, he added, it is necessary that the US sincerely reconsider its policies in fully supporting terrorist-nurturing countries.

His remarks seem to hint at Washingtons backing for countries like Saudi Arabia that are believed to be behind the rise of extremism and terrorism in the region.

He further dismissed the United States terrorism-related allegations against Iran as baseless, noting that the Islamic Republic has been a victim of terrorism.

Khoshroo underscored that the international community has recognized that Iran is not part of regional problems but actually part of their solution.

Today we see that Iran is invited to (partake in initiatives) for settling regional issues, he went on to say.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Khoshroo hailed the recent nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers and said the agreement as well as inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) proved that Irans nuclear activities have been entirely peaceful.

Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehrans nuclear program and implemented it on January 16.
