Tehran, Sept 29, IRNA -- Head of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council Ali-Akbar Velayati here Tuesday called for closer cooperation between Iran and Russia regarding the recent developments in the world and region.
Velayati made the remark in a meeting with visiting Director of Russian Institute for Strategic Studies Leonid Reshetnikov.
Iran and Russia as two neighboring countries enjoy joint interests, said Velayati.
He also called for further Tehran-Moscow relations regarding what is happening today in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Palestine.
What is happening in these countries, Velayati said, will surely affect 'our national security, so we cannot be indifferent.'
He then described Russian President Vladimir Putin's strong stance on the issue of Syria as strategically important.
