The Middle East is gripped by violence and extremism, the Iranian president said, adding, The actions done by the West in the region ostensibly under the banner of fighting terror have led to a flare-up of violence, and the bombardment of different areas has stoked insecurity.
He made the remarks in a Sunday meeting with members of American think tanks in the US city of New York, where he is to take part in the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
He said the region is rife with violence and insecurity, adding that the acts of violence by terror groups, especially Daesh, have become the order of the day.
Amid all these incidents, the JCPOA (Irans nuclear agreement with the P5+1) was a hope, said the president.
On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 countries the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany finalized the text of the JCPOA, which stands for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, in the Austrian capital, Vienna.
Under the JCPOA, limits will be put on Irans nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.
In his Sunday remarks, President Rouhani reiterated that Iran will live up to its obligations under the JCPOA.
The Islamic Republic of Iran explicitly announces that that it remains committed to the provisions of the JCPOA, and believes fulfilling them will serve the interests of all, he said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani lashed out at the double standards adopted by certain states vis--vis Syria.

However, President Rouhani said, if it happens to a European country, they will regard Daesh as a dangerous scourge.
He said the top priority in Syria is to fight terrorism, announcing Irans preparedness to contribute to the anti-terror campaign.
Extremists, particularly Daesh militants, have been operating in Syria and Iraq, committing horrendous acts of violence in the Arab countries.
