TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Public Relations Department General Ramezan Sharif said the Saudi regime is moving along the same path that the Baath party of Iraq did under the leadership of executed dictator Saddam Hussein.

"The invasion of Yemen is no different from the attack launched on Palestine since those who claim to host Harameyn (Kaaba and the holy shrine of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)) have launched a massive war against a poor Muslim Arab nation to empower their hirelings in that country," Sharif said on Monday.

He slammed the UN for keeping mum about the Saudi aggression, and expressed concern that the Saudi-led coalition, supported by the US and Israel, has been bombing Yemen for over 20 days now.

Sharif said while the western and arrogant powers have created a media empire in the world, the voice of the innocent Yemenis is not heard but "cruelty and oppression are discerned on this scene and the fate of the al-Saud will be similar to that of the Baath party".

In relevant remarks on Friday, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani described the Saudi-led aggression against Yemen as a "historical mistake", and warned of its dire consequences for Riyadh.

"The Saudi aggression against Yemen is against the UN Charter, against the principles of peaceful coexistence and against the legal tenets ruling the UN and aims to deviate the path of the Muslim world and wear off the internal power and capacities of the world of Islam," Shamkhani told reporters in Tehran.

"Unfortunately, Saudi Arabia has made a big historical mistake and this heresy will definitely have no end but loss and damage for them," he added.

Also on Sunday, Iran's Supreme Leader said the country deplored the Saudi attacks on Yemen, but it didn�t meddle with the domestic affairs of the regional states.

"Such allegations are not real since Iran hasn�t and will not interfere in other countries' issues," Ayatollah Khamenei said, addressing Army officials and personnel on the occasion of the Army Day in Tehran.

"We feel hatred and disgust for those who attack the civilians, women and children and believe that they are not aware of Islam and human conscience, but we don�t meddle in other countries' affairs," he added.

Ayatollah Khamenei further lamented the ongoing incidents in Yemen, and said the US and other western states' support for the aggressive state was an instance of those US and western policies that widen insecurity in the world.

"Unlike the powers that have no (self-) control, the Islamic Republic of Iran sees security as God's most important grace and stands to safeguard and defend the security of its own and of others," he added.

Ayatollah Khamenei's remarks came as Saudi Arabia has been striking Yemen for 26 days now to restore power to fugitive president Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh. The Saudi-led aggression has so far killed over 2,700 Yemenis, including hundreds of women and children. The attacks have also left thousands of people injured.

Hadi stepped down in January and refused to reconsider the decision despite calls by Ansarullah revolutionaries of the Houthi movement.

Despite Riyadh's claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi warplanes are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.

Five Persian Gulf States -- Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait -- and Egypt that are also assisted by Israel and backed by the US declared war on Yemen in a joint statement issued on March 26.
