A joint screen production of Iran and Iraqi Kurdistan Region entitled The Memories on Stone has competed at the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) in India.
Directed by Shawkat Amin Korki, the movie was presented at the main competition section of the 20th edition of the festival held in Kolkata, India.
The movie recently received the Black Pearl Award as the best film from the Arab World prize at the 2014 Abu Dhabi International Film Festival.
Prominent Iranian filmmaker and cinematographer, Salem Salavati, contributed to the film as its director of photography.
Shawkat Amin Korki was born in Iraqi Kurdistan in 1973. He studied cinema in Iran, where he lived for 25 years. He worked in theater, television and cinema before his return to Kurdistan.
The NETPAC is a worldwide organization of 29 member countries.
The NETPAC Award is given at the selected international film festivals to promote Asian cinema by spotlighting exceptional films and discovering new talents.
