Irans Judiciary protests at US denial of visas to Iranian officials
By Trend

The Iranian Judiciary's High Council for Human Rights has strongly protested at the US move to deny visas to the Iranian officials planning to attend a UN meeting in New York,Press TVreported.

In a statement released on Saturday, the council said the United States' refusal to issue visas to the members of an Iranian delegation that planned to participate in a meeting of the United Nations' Third Committee was "a clear example of the US's misuse of its position as the host country."

"By not issuing visas to the members of the delegation, the US government has practically intended to ruin the possibility of the delegation's presence and to bar its members from conducting their mission of interacting and cooperating with the United Nations," the statement added.

The Iranian delegation intended to attend the meeting to announce the Islamic Republic's clear stance on human rights issues, it noted.

The judiciary body urged the head of the UN General Assembly and the UN chief to prevent the US government from making such moves and remind it of its international obligations as the UN's host country.

The host country to the UN has the duty to provide the necessary services, including visas, to the delegations planning to participate in the UN meetings, it further noted.
