The head of Ilam Environmental Protection says 46 illegal hunters have been arrested in the past six months.
Abdolsaheb Bazyar told IRNA that the highest number of offences were committed in the cities of Mehran and Ilam.
Ilam Province had 37 kinds of mammals, 183 kinds of birds, 59 kinds of amphibians and 34 species of fish.
Illegal hunting has severely affected the wildlife in the province, causing many species to become endangered and some even extinct.
The Department of Environmental Protection reports that in Iran, 17 species of mammal are threatened and 20 bird species are on the verge of extinction due to loss of habitat, repeated droughts and illegal hunting practices.
