Iran's gas exports to hit 10 bcm

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran plans to boost its gas exports up to 10 billion cubic meters (bcm) in the current Iranian year (ends March 20, 2015), a senior energy official announced.
"Iran is planning to increase the volume of its gas exports to 10 billion cubic meters in the current year," Director for Planning at the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Hossein Montazeri said.

He noted that Iran exported 9 billion cubic meters of gas last year, adding, "By launching phases 12, 15, 16, 17 and 18 of the South Pars, the country's gas production capacity will considerably increase."

He pointed to Turkey as main importer of Iran's gas, and said, "As per a 25-year-contract between Iran and Turkey, Iran will export 10 bcm of gas to Turkey every year."

During the first quarter of the current year, gas supply to power plants reached 130, 150 and 170 mcm during the three months.

Iran sits atop the worlds largest gas reserves in the world. It is developing the giant offshore South Pars gas field.
