Liberation of Aleppo will dash US plans to influence the situation in Syria

The United States has called on Russia and the Syrian government to roll back their military operations against Syrian armed opposition groups. In an interview with Sputnik, military analyst Ivan Konovalov explained this by the complete failure of Washingtons and its allies actions in Syria and elsewhere in the Middle East.

In exchange, US Secretary ofState John Kerry promised topressure onthe Syrian opposition, while Russia should do the same, urging similar restraint fromDamascus.
"Their policy is an across-the-board failure, primarily because they have no clear-cut action plan toact upon, while Russias goals are clear, just likethe means ofachieving them the Aerospace Forces, the Syrian Army and the negotiating process. Our [Western] colleagues are simply jealous ofRussias successes, Ivan Konovalov said.

Russian and Syrian military authorities have established a number of humanitarian corridors aroundAleppo forcivilians and terrorist fighters willing tosurrender aspart ofa humanitarian operation launched onJuly 28.

Commenting onthe US criticism ofthis humanitarian operation aroundAleppo, Konovalov said that it reflected the peaceful intentions ofMoscow and Damascus who want togive the militants holed upin the besieged city a chance tomove outand end the war inwhich everyone wants tokill each other.

"Killing everyone is exactly what al-Nusra, Daesh and their allied militant groups the Americans describe as moderate opposition really want, and the recent downing ofthe Russian helicopter proved what this so-called moderate opposition is all about, Ivan Konovalov told Sputnik.

He said the US calls forRussia and Damascus torefrain fromany further advances againstthe terrorist forces stemmed fromWashingtons desire toprevent these forces fromtaking Aleppo, which would change the course ofthe war inSyria.
If Aleppo falls, this would deal a serious blow toTurkey, which had supported these terrorists groups. This would also mean the complete failure ofthe Americans plans toinfluence the situation inSyria, Ivan Konovalov said inconclusion.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said last week that Moscow and Damascus had launched a large-scale humanitarian operation inAleppo, opening three escape routes forcivilians and one formilitants wishing tolay downarms.

At the present time the center ofAleppo is controlled bySyrian government forces, while some 250,000 civilians are feared tobe trapped inthe rebel-held eastern districts ofthe city.

Meanwhile, fighting has intensified inthe contested city inthe pastfew days asjihadist militants mounted an offensive tobreak throughgovernment cordons.
