Iran warns Washington against abandoning nuclear deal

IRNA Tehran is mulling over new arrangements in case the United States withdraws from Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iranian government spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Should the US withdraw from the agreement, Iran would certainly make rearrangements, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said.

The JCPOA is not an agreement between Tehran and Washington, Nobakht added.

The international deal has been signed between Iran on one side and P5+1 group of countries on the other, he said.

The United States, despite playing a significant role, is 'one' of the six signatories to the international deal, he stressed.

We have been engaged with the other five parties of the nuclear deal and we expect them to play a more positive role.

He also said that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed Iran's compliance to the JCPOA.

This means that we are committed to the deal, Iran government spokesman said.

Nobakht went on to say that Iran's main concern is to protect its national interests.
