Minister stresses importance of Tehran-Baku ties

MNA Irans ICT Minister Vaezi said activities of Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Economic Commission hold considerable significance and both sides are eager to bolster ties in various fields.Mahmoud Vaezi, is leading a huge economic delegation to the Azerbaijani capital of Bakuthe as the head of Iran-AzerbaijanJoint Economic Commission, made the remarks upon arrival at Heydar Aliyev International Airport on Monday evening.

The visit is taking place on the occasion of the 11th Joint Economic Commission between Tehran and Baku to begin today on December 27.

Three year have passed since the previous edition of the Commission meeting, recalled the official stressing that, in the meantime, several contacts have been made at different levels especially between Iranian and Azerbaijani presidents leading to momentous decisions.

The Iranian head of the Commission said the 11th round of the meeting aims to discuss venues for implementation of previously-made decisions.

More than 100 officials and representatives of Iranian companies are participating in the event, highlighted the Iranian ICT minister.

In time with the Commission meeting, a joint conference will be also held in Baku and Nakhchivan with Iranian and Azerbaijani entrepreneurs and businessmen in attendance.

Referring to agreements between Tehran and Baku on implementation of joint economic projects, Mahmoud Vaezi said a number of projects had yielded results though further plans in pharmaceutical and car-making industries will be discussed during the Baku session.

He further underscored that, Nakhchivan-Tabriz-Mashhad railroad project will be launched on Thursday as previously agreed by presidents of the two sides.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi said other economic projects are on the agenda of both countries which can open a new chapter in Tehran-Baku relations.

Mahmoud Vaezi is also slated to attend a meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev as well as some other Azerbaijani authorities.
