10 police officers injured in Khorramshahr incident

IRNA - Iran's Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Hossein Zolfaghari announced that an armed person injured 10 police officers and a civilian in the city of Khorramshahr in southwestern Iran.

Based on the reports, the gunman has not yet been identified.

Zolfaghari also rejected claims regarding death of a person in the protests, saying nobody has been killed and just one person was injured.

Water shortage and pollution of fresh water resources have recently caused protests in some cities in Khuzestan Province.

Khorramshahr was also the scene of similar street protests on Saturday.

'During street protests some people were provoked while there were others who took advantage of the situation and embarked on actions that resulted in tarnishing the security and disciplinary conditions,' Iran's Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani had earlier said.

The police and disciplinary forces are responsible to maintain security, he added.
