Iran, France ink 2 MoUs on railway, aviation cooperation
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi declared that Tehran and Paris have signed two memoranda of understanding (MoU) in the transport sector.

"Iran and France signed 2 MoUs on cooperation in railway and air transportion sectors," Akhoundi told reporters on Monday.

He said that the French transport minister visited Iran on an Air France flight after an 8-year stop in Air France's direct flight to Iran.

Akhoundi said that the two countries have also agreed on financing projects in railway, air and sea transportation.

The Iranian minister said that the French companies will help Iran design and renovate the railway stations of Tehran and Mashhad and also helping to launch Tehran-Qom-Isfahan speed trains.

"We have held various talks with French government and companies; France was among the countries that pioneered to open a new chapter in the two countries' economic ties... ," he added.

Akhoundi said that the two countries are duty-bound to establish new round of talks and continue on the same path.

In late January, Iran and France signed 20 MoUs to broaden their cooperation in political, economic, cultural and scientific spheres in the post-sanctions era.

The cooperation pacts were signed at the presence of President Hassan Rouhani and his French counterpart Francois Hollande at the Elysee Palace in Paris on January 28.

The roadmap document on strengthening of Iran-France bilateral ties as the first document was signed by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his French counterpart Laurent Fabius.

Air France resumed its flights to Iran on Sunday and it will offer four flights a week from Paris to Tehran.

European airlines that left Iran due to the countrys tensions with the Western powers over its nuclear energy program have also been gradually coming back since a deal was reached between Tehran and the world powers last year.
