Putin: Iran among major partners of Russia

Moscow, Dec 19, IRNA Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is among the major partners of Russia and Moscow is determined to broaden cooperation with the country.
Speaking to reporters in his annually press conference, he said We are determined to broaden relations and cooperation with Iran in all sectors and this should be considered our principled choice.

Irans success in resolving its nuclear dispute (with the West) is due to Russia?s stands and true understanding of the US administration, he said.

Moscow has spared no efforts to resolve Irans nuclear standoff through political means but this could not be attained without US support, he said.

I do not think that the recent allegations made by President Obama about Iran was a sign of deviation from the US support for efforts to resolve Irans nuclear disputes through political means, Putin said.

This fact should be taken into consideration that the US administration is under pressure from the Congress which is inclined towards Israel, he said.

Russia is against imposing economic sanctions on Iran, he said adding that sanctions do not bear fruitful results and we have always mentioned this, the Russian president said.

I hope the recent action of President Obama in imposing sanctions on some overseas companies and individuals will not create obstacles to efforts to resolve Irans nuclear issue, he said

Irans legitimate right to make use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes should be guaranteed and the international community should not impose any limits or act partially to this end, he said.

Some 200 domestic and foreign reporters covered Putin?s annual press conference.
