Gas exporting countries should play vital role in global decisions: President Rouhani
Tehran, Nov 4, IRNA President Hassan Rouhani has said that the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) should play a pivotal role in making global decisions.

Addressing the 15th ministerial meeting of the GECF, President Rohani stressed Sunday evening that the forum


could play an effective role in global issues due to the significant role of gas in development of clean energy worldwide.

He expressed hope that as the present GECF secretary general, Iran could play an important role in coordinating the forum?s goals and its achievements.

Iranian president also hoped that the GECF could take effective steps aimed at serving the gas exporting countries and nations.

The 15th ministerial meeting of the GECF opened in Tehran on Sunday (Nov 3).

The GECF`s financial and administrative issues as well as budget for 2014 were discussed in the meeting.

The forum is considered as a multi-layered and an intergovernmental organization of the world?s leading 13 natural gas producers comprising Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.

Kazakhstan, Iraq, the Netherlands and Norway have the status of observer members.
