A Look at Iranian Newspaper Front Pages on February 22

22 Feb 2018 - 12:09

Iran Front Page- IFP has taken a look at the front pages of Iranian newspapers on Thursday, February 22, and picked headlines from 18 of them. IFP has simply translated the headlines and does not vouch for their accuracy.

Almost all newspapers today covered the repercussions of the recent clashes between a group of rioters, who were apparently supporting the dervishes of Gonabad, and the police forces in Tehran’s Pasdaran Street, which led to the deaths of three soldiers and two Basij [voluntary] forces.
Also a top story today was the letter of former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in which the latter was asked to dismiss Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani and hold early parliamentary and presidential elections without what Ahmadinejad called the Guardian Council’s effort to “rig” the votes.

Several papers also highlighted the trips of Spanish Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastis and Dutch Foreign Minister Sigrid Kaag to Tehran, during which the two top diplomats held talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, top security official Ali Shamkhani, and the Leader’s advisor Ali Akbar Velayati.

The above issues, as well as many more, are highlighted in the following headlines and top stories:
