Anti-Iran moves to be nipped in bud: Cmdr.

7 Jun 2014 - 12:48

The Islamic Republic of Iran will “nip in the bud” any moves against the country’s interests, says the Navy’s deputy commander.
Speaking on the sidelines of a visit to a naval base in the Persian Gulf island of Kharg on Friday, Rear Admiral Gholam-Reza Khadem Bigham noted, “The base carried out a lot of operational work during the Holy Defense period (the eight-year Iraqi imposed war on Iran in the 80’s), but today the [Iranian] Navy is tasked with missions in international waters.”

The admiral underlined that the Navy monitors trans-regional forces all the time.

“In order to be able to defend the country’s interests and sea borders in any location, near and far alike, we need to have good information in all aspects in order to monitor trans-regional forces every moment and keep watch on them,” he said

“This is achieved with the help of these very strategic naval bases and based on the data [that the bases provide us] we can predict the future and nip in the bud if there is any move against the interests of our country.”

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

Tehran has repeatedly assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
