Number of HIV-positive patients increasing in Iran, Middle East

Tehran, May 19, IRNA – A senior Iranian official said here on Monday that the number of HIV-positive patients is on the rise in Iran and the region.
  Head of Iranian Research Center for HIV/AIDS Minoo Mohrez stressed that the unsafe sexual relationship is the main cause of AIDS in Iran, adding the people under 30 and men are at higher risk of getting infected with HIV.
The number of HIV-positive women are also increasing in Iran, Mohrez noted, adding if proper measures are not taken the number of mother-to-child HIV infections will sharp;y rise day by day.

She stressed that the insufficient AIDS awareness, spread of AIDS and lack of any measures to prevent HIV infection are among the greatest problems in Iran.
