A French Foreign Ministry official says Paris seeks a solid and long-lasting deal in nuclear negotiations between Iran and the six world powers.
“We have only one objective in the negotiations and that is reaching a solid, long-standing and durable agreement [over Tehran’s nuclear energy program],” said French Foreign Ministry's Director General for North Africa and the Middle East Jean-François Girault.

The French official made the remark in a meeting with Ali Akbar Velayati, President of Expediency Council’s Center for Strategic Research, in Tehran on Saturday.

He said his visit to Iran is aimed at exchanging views with officials in Tehran on developments in the Middle East, particularly the situation in Iraq, Lebanon and Syria.

Velayati, for his part, described Iran-France relations as deep-rooted, long-lasting and with very little ups and downs.

He added that Tehran and Paris have had good collaboration on international issues, hoping that the two countries would maintain their cooperation in the future.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council -- the US, the UK, France, Russia, China -- plus Germany wrapped up their latest round of nuclear talks in Vienna on Friday.

The two sides have been holding talks to iron out differences and reach a final deal, which would end the standoff over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear energy program.

Last November, Iran and the six countries signed an interim nuclear deal in the Swiss city of Geneva. The agreement came into force in January.
