Iran’s foreign minister voiced his suspicion that Israel was behind the October 19 bombing in Beirut, saying that Israel was the “primary beneficiary” from the explosion that killed a top Lebanese intelligence official and two others while injuring over 120 others.

“Israel is the primary beneficiary from [Internal Security Forces intelligence chief] General Wissam al-Hassan’s assassination because it wants to distract Lebanese public opinion,” the National News Agency quoted Ali Akbar Salihi as saying on Saturday.

“What would Syria gain from killing this person?” he asked, adding that Hassan uncovered 30 Israeli spy networks in Lebanon.

Salihi also said that his country maintains “special relations” with all of Lebanon’s political parties, and not just the Shiite Hezbollah and Amal Movement.

“Our relations with everyone in Lebanon are special, as was shown when we invited [former PM] Saad Hariri to visit Iran, which he actually did a year and a half ago.”

The Iranian FM added that his country possesses drones more powerful than the one Hezbollah sent to Israel, adding that they had a range of up to two thousand kilometers.

Earlier in October, Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said that that his party had sent the UAV that was shot down over Israel. He added that the drone was manufactured in Iran but assembled in Lebanon.
