Tehran, May 6, IRNA – A senior Foreign Ministry official said on Tuesday that Iran is to increase its contacts and visits to Saudi Arabia as bilateral cooperation between the two capitals would strengthen regional peace.
  Spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry Marziyeh Afkham said that the government of President Hassan Rouhani was determined to have a ?constructive interaction? with world states.
?Iran attaches great importance to Saudi Arabia?s role and status among other regional states and increasing bilateral meetings with Saudi officials is on Tehran?s agenda,? the spokeswoman told reporters at her weekly press conference.

Touching upon recent reports about formation of joint commissions for Iran-Qatar and Iran-UAE cooperation, Afkham said, ?Tehran gives great importance to boosting bilateral ties with its neighboring states.?

Iran and the United Arab Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in April to establish a joint business council.

The MOU was signed on Tuesday in the presence of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the end of the 2nd Iran-UAE High Joint Economic Committee meeting in Abu Dhabi.

?Iran is optimistic about the future and so are other regional states. Therefore they help promote bilateral cooperation and friendly ties with Iran,? Afkham said.

Elsewhere in the conference, she added that Tehran was mulling a visit to Turkey by President Hassan Rouhani in a near future.

More information would be released as soon as the date of the visit was set, Afkham said.
